CPR & AED Basics for UAE Workplaces
What You Need to Know in 2025
Cardiac arrest can happen anywhere — including your office, construction site, or hotel. Understanding CPR and AED requirements helps UAE businesses prepare for this life-threatening emergency and meet regulatory expectations.
What is CPR?
CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) is an emergency procedure that combines chest compressions and rescue breaths to maintain blood flow when the heart stops. When performed immediately, CPR can double or triple a cardiac arrest victim's chance of survival.
In the UAE, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and OSHAD Abu Dhabi both encourage workplace CPR training — and for high-risk environments and healthcare facilities, it is effectively mandatory.

What is an AED?
An AED (Automated External Defibrillator) is a portable device that delivers an electric shock to restore a normal heart rhythm during sudden cardiac arrest. AEDs are designed to be used by non-medical staff — they talk you through every step.
UAE AED Requirements
✅ Dubai Municipality: AEDs required in malls, airports, large buildings (500+ occupants)
✅ OSHAD: Strongly recommended for high-risk workplaces (construction, oil & gas)
✅ DHA: All healthcare facilities must have AEDs on-premises
✅ UAE Civil Aviation: AEDs mandatory on all commercial aircraft
